Germany / Founded in 1997 / 120 Residents
Founded in 1997, Sieben Linden quickly grew into a thriving ecovillage with a carbon footprint 70% below the German average (according to a 2004 Kassel University study). Pioneers transformed an old barn into a communal hub housing a kitchen, library, and meeting rooms. From an initial group of seven, the community has grown to 120 residents, many of whom live in self-built homes made from local wood, straw, and clay.
