Dry stone is one of the main structural elements of Catalonia’s rural landscape. These constructions, with great historical and environmental value, embody an ancient and complex expertise currently under threat.
Born from centuries of traditional farming, these structures served a vital dual purpose: clearing fields for cultivation while creating property walls that shelter wildlife and terraces that prevent soil erosion. While rural knowledge is crucial for our future development, few efforts are being made to stop its imminent loss.
Project shot on 35mm film during a two-month artistic residency at the Centre of Contemporary Art and Sustainability (CACIS – “Forn de la Calç”) in Catalunya, Spain.
