Portugal / Founded in 1995 / 160 Residents
In Portugal’s Alentejo region, an area long defined by desertification and land abandonment, lies Tamera. The community, which evolved from a German project started in 1974, has successfully turned a dusty, arid landscape into a flourishing oasis. More than just an ecovillage, Tamera seeks to be an “acupuncture point of peace”, serving as a testing ground for sustainable models designed to empower communities in global crisis areas. Its residents are bound by a shared mission, collaborating on actions that span from local morning meditations to global peace pilgrimages.
