Italy / Founded in 1980 / 200 Residents
In their three decades of existence, the Elfi have grown into one of Italy’s most deeply rooted counter-cultural communities. Living across 30 areas – from self-built homes to occupied abandoned villages – they maintain a fiercely independent, self-sufficient lifestyle centred on agriculture, cultivating their own fruits and vegetables and producing their own flour and olive oil. Despite being spread across the valley, these sub-communities remain tightly knit, regularly exchanging goods and supporting one another.
